Abstract

Esta obra, publicada originalmente en francés con el título de Initiation a la Critique Historique, viene a colocar al lector común, y mucho más al historiador experimentado, en contacto directo con una perspectiva de la investigación histórica cuyo papel principal implica el ejercicio de la capacidad creadora como factor primordial de la investigación. El autor de este libro, el notable historiador belga Léon-E. Halkin, nos precisa el objeto de su escrito afirmando que su objetivo es el de iniciar a sus lectores en la crítica histórica, es decir, presentar una selección de nociones y ejemplos adecuados para hacer comprender mejor las dificultades de la historia y la misión del historiador. La obra se divide en tres partes; la primera implica un estudio preliminar sobre el autor y su obra; la segunda expresa los principios fundamentales sobre la crítica histórica; y la tercera nos muestra algunas de las innumerables aplicaciones de aquélla; he aquí sus títulos: “Retratos de Felipe II”, “El mito de Napoleón”, “Hitler y la resistencia alemana”, “La crueldad de los suplicios”, “Avatares del honor” e “Intolerancia e “Inquisición”.
