Abstract

Within the framework of the thermodynamic approach, an explanation is given for the refraction of light at the boundary of two different optical media. It is shown that the refractive index of an optical medium essentially depends on the change in its entropy during the passage of light through this medium, its temperature, entropy interaction with external sources, and may be non isotropic.
