Penerapan KBLBB sangat efektif untuk mengurangi penggunaan BBM di sektor transportasi. Namun tanpa diiringi dengan diversifikasi bahan bakar pembangkit ke arah energi terbarukan, penerapan KBLBB tidak akan mengurangi emisi GRK nasional secara signifikan. Untuk itu Badan Pengkajian dan Penerapan Teknologi (BPPT) melakukan kajian optimasi penyediaan energi pada sistem pengisian daya listrik KBLBB dengan menggunakan sumber energi terbarukan, khususnya tenaga surya, yang hasilnya dituangkan dalam buku Outlook Energi Indonesia 2021 dengan tema Perspektif Teknologi Energi Indonesia: Tenaga Surya untuk Penyediaan Energi Charging Station.
