El propósito de este trabajo es dar a conocer el desarrollo que ha tenido el papel del docente dentro de la sociedad así, como sus funciones al enseñar y educar a los niños dentro de las épocas prehispánica y colonial además de tener una visión más clara de cómo fue evolucionando el rol del maestro de acuerdo a seis aspectos que abordaremos en este ensayo y que concluiremos contrastando esta visión con la actual perspectiva del desempeño docente. Sin embargo debido a la extensión de la información no se podrá abordar de manera muy descriptiva cada uno de los temas, por lo tanto haremos una breve reflexión de cada uno de estos puntos.
