USING ENERGY ACCESS EXPLORER TO IDENTIFY HIGH POTENTIAL SITES FOR SCALLING UP MINI-GRIDS IN THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO

Abstract

The DRC has abundant energy resources, ranging from; biomass, hydro-potential, oil, natural gas, coal, solar and wind potentials, geothermal to uranium. On the energy aspect of the incumbent Government’s mega project called “145 administrative territories”, the electricity procurement programme has been launched with a clear goal of scaling up electrification in rural areas through mini-grids. The main work is to dentify localities with high potential energy demand within the country that can be electrify through wind solar or Hydro on a small scale. Taking into consideration all parameters, the analysis brings out these localities as top with high energy mix potential that can be electrify on a small scale. (Sample for 100% potential and 99% potential). More than 3 812 241 people will get access to electricity from our results.
