Abstract

O câncer de próstata é um dos principais tipos de cânceres que são registrados em indivíduos do sexo masculino. Quando diagnosticado precocemente, pode aumentar a sobrevida do paciente reduzindo a probabilidade de óbito por esta causa. Objetivo: analisar o perfil da mortalidade por câncer de próstata na região nordeste do Brasil. Metodologia: estudo descritivo, realizado através de dados do Atlas de Mortalidade por Câncer do Instituto Nacional do Câncer, extraídas por meio de tabulação do aplicativo, disponível no período de 2009 a 2018. Os dados foram organizados em planilhas do Microsoft Excel 2016 e analisados à luz da literatura pertinente. Considerando que foram utilizados dados secundários, dispensou-se a submissão à Comitê de ética em Pesquisa. Resultados: identificou-se que foram registrados 38.614 casos de óbito por câncer de próstata, com tendência de alta ao longo do período e que os estados Bahia, Pernambuco e Ceará apresentaram os maiores valores. Em relação à taxa de mortalidade bruta, o Nordeste teve uma variação de 12,7 a 15,7 óbitos por 100.000 habitantes. Os homens com idade superior a 60 anos representaram 95,3% dos óbitos. Conclusão: conclui-se que a região nordeste apresentou mortalidade por câncer de próstata com tendência de alta ao longo do período estudado.
