Abstract: Within the broad terrain of the Italian reception of biopolitics, in recent years the Neo-operaist tendency has stood out with authors such as Antonio Negri, Paolo Virno, Franco Berardi and Maurizio Lazzarato. This tendency has deepened, completed and even corrected the meanings that Michel Foucault gave to this concept in the 1970s. In his latest works, the Italian sociologist and philosopher, Maurizo Lazzarato, has sought to problematize the concepts of biopolitics and government in relation to the notions of strategy and war with the aim of making these categories adequate to think about the contemporary situation. This article will take into account this critical reception of biopolitics and governmentality to explore the tensions between both philosophical and political approaches, trying to explain some of the fundamental assumptions and implications of both theories.
