Abstract

Ombudspersons have been a permanent institution at almost all research institutions in Germany for some time now. With its "Guidelines for Safeguarding Good Research Practice", updated in 2019, the DFG reaffirms the importance of ombudsperson work. Against this background, this handbook aims to provide ombudspersons with targeted support in the performance of their duties. The handbook was initially published in a preliminary version for the ombudspersons of the University of Göttingen by the Ombuds Office for Good Research Practice there. With the aim of meeting the information needs of all ombudspersons - regardless of the institution at which they work - the Network of Research Intergrity Offices in Germany has now further developed the handbook and converted it into a general template. Using key questions and background information, this can be concretized with references to institution-specific regulations. The template can be downloaded from the website of the Ombuds Committee for Research Integrity in Germany (until 2023 German Research Ombudsman) here.
