The influence of Central-American politics, specifically in the country of Guatemala, continues to be unrecognized in the realm of international politics. The International Commission Against Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG), established and appointed by the United Nations (UN) in 2006, served as an essential political mechanism to efficiently reduce organized crime in Guatemala. The testimonials and interviews of important political figures and experts critically analyzed the impacts and effects of the organization in Guatemala. These testimonials and interviews were critical factors in determining the overall effectiveness of the organization at both a domestic and international level. Despite being abolished in 2019 by former Guatemalan president Jimmy Morales, the CICIG continues to serve as an example for other countries to incorporate similar model-type entities into their political and justice systems in the future to effectively, efficiently, and continuously combat the existential problem of organized crime on a global scale.
