Rubus exsuccus Steudel ex Richard 1847

Authors: Beek, Abraham Van De;

Rubus exsuccus Steudel ex Richard 1847

Abstract

f. Rubus exsuccus Steud. ex Richard (1847: 256). Lectotype (designated here):—ABYSSINIA [ETHIOPIA]. ‘In umbrosis lateris borealis montis Aber prope Dsche-nausa’. 28 December 1839, Schimper 867 (lectotype P00374023 [https://science.mnhn.fr/institution/mnhn/collection/p/item/p00374023]; isolectotypes A 00056042, BM000622346, BR 842 202, GH 00056041 (strong sample), K000310009 (the right hand branch), K000310011, K000310012, L 0019729, LG0000090026836, MPU024530, P00374017, P00374018, S12-13510 Notes: —The specimen P003740122 does not have a printed label. It is similar to the type collected by Schimper and conserved by Steudel. However, the number on the label is different (807). This might be a mistake, but the uncertainty makes it unsuitable for selection as a lectotype. This species has long patent reddish brown hairs on the stem and in the inflorescence; the serrature is rather obtuse, rounded or triangular, with short mucros; prickles from 1–3 mm broad base are compressed, strongly declining, sometimes somewhat curved, up to 4–5 mm long, stipules 11–15 mm, linear-lanceolate; ovaries glabrous. Specimens:— ABYSSINIA [ETHIOPIA]. Gomiénqué, Sabra, 6000 ft, 27 October 1852, Schimper 796 (P 02550711 /4). — TANZANIA. Njombe District, valley below Milo Mission, 1800 m, 30 January 1961, Richards 14053 (P 02550730).
