USE OF GOOGLE EARTH FOR RESOURCE MAPPING AND PROPERTY TAX CALCULATION: A CASE STUDY OF BAREILLY MUNICIPAL COOPERATION.

Abstract

This case study explores the utilization of Google Earth as a powerful tool for resource mapping and property tax calculation within the context of the Bareilly Municipal Corporation. With the increasing need for efficient management of urban areas, local authorities have been actively seeking innovative approaches to improve revenue generation and streamline administrative processes. The study aims to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of employing Google Earth as a solution for resource mapping and property tax calculation in the city of Bareilly. The research methodology involves a combination of quantitative and qualitative approaches. Firstly, high-resolution satellite imagery and aerial photographs available through Google Earth are used to map the city's resources, including land parcels, buildings, infrastructure, and other relevant features. Subsequently, property tax calculation algorithms are developed based on this spatial information, incorporating factors such as property size, location, usage, and applicable tax rates. Through a comprehensive analysis of the case study, the research investigates the benefits and challenges associated with the implementation of Google Earth for resource mapping and property tax calculation. The results highlight several advantages, including improved accuracy and efficiency in identifying taxable properties, enhanced visualization of spatial data, and simplified record-keeping processes. Additionally, the study explores the potential for revenue increase through better tax compliance and the ability to identify previously overlooked properties. However, certain challenges are also identified, such as the need for skilled personnel to interpret and analyze the spatial data, potential inaccuracies in satellite imagery, and data privacy concerns. Mitigation strategies for these challenges are discussed, including staff training programs, regular data validation processes, and adherence to data protection regulations. The findings of this case study provide valuable insights for local authorities, policymakers, and urban planners interested in adopting Google Earth as a tool for resource mapping and property tax calculation. The research highlights the potential of this technology to revolutionize traditional approaches to revenue generation and administrative processes in municipal corporations. Future studies may focus on expanding the scope of implementation to other cities and exploring the integration of advanced geospatial technologies for even more accurate and efficient resource mapping and taxation systems.
