Scripts used for the calculation and visualization of results in the manuscript "Surprising stability of recent global carbon cycling enables improved fossil fuel emission verification". All scripts should be placed into a single directory "model" and used by executing MAIN_RegModel_Birner2022.py. const_and_setttings.py contains parameters and settings that can be change by the user. The code includes references to folders "data", "figures" and "figure data" that should be created by the user and are expected to be found at the same level as the directory "model". Although the scripts are able to automatically download most data sets used in the analysis, static copies of the data sets are also provided here. Please cite the associated manuscript (https://doi.org/10.1038/s41558-023-01761-x) when using these scripts and always reference the original owners of the data sets (see manuscript). Data are provided here only for your convenience without claiming any ownership. Use scripts at your own risk!

| selected citations These citations are derived from selected sources. This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 1 | |
| popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Average | |
| influence This indicator reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | Average | |
| impulse This indicator reflects the initial momentum of an article directly after its publication, based on the underlying citation network. | Average |
