An Xcite AEM and magnetic survey was flown near Onslow, Western Australia to prospect for possible gold hosting sulphide bodies. Processing of AEM data to conductivity-depth sections, depth slices and voxels defined the base of the Cretaceous Carnarvon Basin over the Proterozoic Capricorn Orogen. A complex, inter-related network of linear magnetic and AEM anomalies occurs in an apparent basement-high of the Capricorn Orogen. 3D visualisation of AEM processing and modelling results showed that the base of the Carnarvon Basin has a complex palaeo-topography controlled by long, linear, dolerite dykes, interpreted granites and banded iron formations. The dykes may in turn be controlled by stratigraphic conductors related to faulting in the Capricorn Orogen. A planned drilling program will test the strongest AEM anomalies and confirm the source of the conductors.
