Osteoarthritis is one of the most common diseases affecting over 302 million people worldwide every year. Since the beginning of the study of osteoarthritis, knowledge about the pathogenesis of the disease has undergone significant evolution, from the views of it as an «age-related» pathology, which consists in a decrease in the thickness and volume of the articular cartilage to recognition of the fact that this nosology is complex, with the involvement of all joint structures in the pathological process.
