Multitrack Western Instrumental Classical Trio Dataset

Abstract

Synthesized Trio dataset with added percussion (hammer sounds) based on the piano of the original piece. The original use case was to find remixing preferences for cochlear implant users in Western instrumental classical music with a low number of instruments and with a similar separation of musical components as used in pop music remixing (i.e. melody, bass, accompaniment, and percussion). Note, that instruments differ from the original composition. The used instruments are shown in the table below. The compositions' MIDI files were kindly provided by Classical Archive (www.classicalarchives.com/midi.html), and Native Instruments kindly supplied us with the Contact library for the synthesis. Instruments selected for synthesis: Melody Bass Accompaniment Percussion Arrangement 1 Clarinet Cello Piano Dampened Piano (Leather) Arrangement 2 Cello (Bass-)Clarinet Harpsichord Dampened Piano (Felt) The excerpts were taken from the following pieces: Dvorak - Trio No 4 in E minor for Piano, Violin & Cello Op 90 Mendelssohn - Piano Trio No 1 in D minor. Op 49 Bach - Trio Sonata in G (BWV1039) Debussy - Piano Trio in G major Each track is loudness balanced using the ReplayGain implemented foobar2000.
