Abstract

Objetivo: Realizar una actualización sobre la eficacia de la aromaterapia sobre el dolor y la ansiedad en pacientes con quemaduras. Método: Se realiza una búsqueda bibliográfica en bases de datos de Pubmed, Lilacs, IBECS y CENTRAL siguiendo las recomendaciones PRISMA. Se seleccionan los estudios realizados en los últimos 5 años, en español o inglés, con texto completo y de alta calidad metodológica. Resultados: En todos los estudios se realizó aromaterapia aunque en cada uno se utilizó una modalidad diferente: aromaterapia por inhalación con aroma de rosa damascena, aceites aromáticos de lavanda y manzanilla, inhalación de aceite de lavanda e inhalación de aceites esenciales de rosa de damasco y lavanda combinados. El número total de participantes fue de 527. El tiempo de aplicación de la aromaterapia fue de 15-20 minutos. Los resultados mostraron una eficacia de la aromaterapia estadísticamente significativa. Conclusión: La aromaterapia es eficaz en pacientes con quemaduras. Esta terapia reduce la intensidad del dolor y el estado de ansiedad, mejora la calidad del sueño, ayuda a la estabilización de los signos vitales, y es eficaz para reducir las dosis de fármacos sedantes, y analgésicos administrados. ABSTRACT: [AROMATHERAPY AS AN ADJUVANT FOR PAIN AND ANXIETY IN BURN PATIENTS. LITERATURE REVIEW] Objective: To perform an update on the efficacy of aromatherapy on pain and anxiety in burn patients. Method: A literature search was carried out in Pubmed, Lilacs, IBECS and CENTRAL databases following PRISMA recommendations. Studies carried out in the last 5 years, in Spanish or English, with full text and high methodological quality were selected. Results: Aromatherapy was performed in all the studies, although in each one a different modality was used: aromatherapy by inhalation with damask rose aroma, lavender and chamomile aromatic oils, lavender oil inhalation, and inhalation of essential oils of damask rose and lavender combined. The total number of participants was 527. The application time of aro-matherapy was 15-20 minutes. The results showed a statistically significant efficacy of aromatherapy. Conclusion: Aromatherapy is effective in burn patients. This therapy reduces the intensity of pain and anxiety, improves sleep quality, helps stabilize vital signs, and is effective in reducing the doses of sedative drugs and analgesics administered.
