Plantas raras, ameaçadas e endêmicas dos topos de serra do Espinhaço Meridional

Abstract

Topos de montanha são muitas vezes refúgios de vegetação por se tratarem, em geral, de ilhas isoladas distintas da vegetação do entorno, muitas vezes abrigando espécies raras e endêmicas. Nos últimos anos, muitas espécies raras que antes se pensava estarem extintas ou à beira da extinção foram redescobertas em regiões montanhosas. É o caso das espécies apresentadas aqui, que foram redescobertas depois de décadas, ou são ainda desconhecidas pela ciência. Os estudos florísticos em andamento em áreas de turfeiras no alto da Serra do Espinhaço Meridional, especificamente na Chapada do Couto, revelaram a existência de seis espécies raras de Eriocaulaceae, endêmicas dessas áreas elevadas do Espinhaço Meridional e associadas a ecossistemas úmidos. Duas espécies pertencem ao gênero Actinocephalus e quatro ao gênero Paepalanthus, incluindo uma redescoberta e duas espécies ainda desconhecidas pela ciência. Dada a raridade das ocorrências, o alto grau de endemismo e a fragilidade dos ecossistemas dos topos de montanha, são apresentados o estado de conservação destas espécies, além de comentários sobre morfologia, distribuição geográfica e imagens ilustrando cada uma delas.
