La ignorancia ha sido considerada como un estado negativo para la humanidad. Sin embargo, bajo ciertos contextos puede ser un impulso para el desarrollo del conocimiento no solo porque motiva al investigador sino porque una clasificación de lo que desconocemos hace que la ignorancia tenga relevancias similares a las del conocimiento. En esa medida, los modelos científicos, como representaciones, alcanzan un carácter de ficticios o posibles debido a que exponen algo que se desconoce o se conoce de manera parcial, haciendo evidente una forma de ignorancia específica.
