Enzo Paci represented an important point of reference for post–war Italian philosophy. His intellectual curiosity prompted him to develop a complex thought, the result of sometimes unusual connections between different perspectives. Among his most ambitious theoretical attempts is the conjugation between Husserlian phenomenology and Marx's philosophy. Although the Italian philosopher meant to provide a theoretical framework for Marxian categories such as that of alienation, his phenomenological conception of subjectivity is what benefited the most from this contamination. The complex relationship between consciousness and temporality is interpreted as a dialectical situation, and this implies a strong reappraisal of the egological character of experience that many commentators ascribe to Husserl. Ultimately, dialectical materialism leads Paci to outline a peculiar naturalization of phenomenological consciousness.
