Berechnung Paris-kompatibler Emissionspfade mit dem ESPM am Beispiel Deutschlands und der EU

Abstract

CO2 reichert in sich der Atmosphäre an. Daher ist die Summe an CO2-Emissionen entscheidend für die Einhaltung bestimmter Grenzen der Erderwärmung. Auf dieser naturwissenschaftlichen Grundlage fordern z. B. „Fridays for Future“, dass sich nationale Emissionspfade an einem verbleibenden globalen CO2-Budget orientieren sollen. Bei der Umsetzung stellen sich jedoch folgende Fragen: An welchem konkreten global verbleibenden CO2-Budget sollen sich die Staaten bei ihren NDCs orientieren? An welcher Aufteilung eines globalen CO2-Budgets sollen sich Staaten bei ihren NDCs orientieren? Wie kann ein daraus resultierendes nationales CO2-Budget in einen sinnvollen nationalen Emissionspfad übersetzt werden? Das Extended Smooth Pathway Model (ESPM) bietet einen Rahmen, um diese Fragen zu beantworten. Wenn die Vertragsstaaten bei ihren NDCs ein dahinterstehendes globales CO2-Budget und einen dahinterstehenden Verteilungsschlüssel transparent machen, kann dies einen Diskurs in Gang setzen, der zu konvergierenden globalen Orientierungsgrößen führt und damit zu in Summe Paris-kompatiblen NDCs beiträgt.
