Abstract

Es importante conocer datos estadísticos sobre la incidencia de los biotipos faciales predominantes en la comunidad guayaquileña, en particular en los pacientes de la Clínica de Ortodoncia de la Escuela de Postgrado de la Facultad Piloto de Odontología de la Universidad de Guayaquil, quienes día a día acuden a la misma para ser atendidos por los futuros especialistas, los cuales necesitan valorar el biotipo facial para así poder elaborar un correcto plan de tratamiento acorde a cada paciente. Objetivo: Determinar la incidencia de los biotipos faciales mediante el análisis cefalométrico de Ricketts en una muestra de pacientes de la Clínica de Ortodoncia de la Escuela de Postgrado de Odontología de la Universidad de Guayaquil en el periodo 2014- 2015. Para ello se tomaron radiografías cefalométricas de 100 pacientes entre 15 y 50 años, quienes no habían sido sometidos a ningún tipo de tratamiento ortodóntico previo y a los cuales se les realizó el diagnóstico del biotipo facial mediante el Análisis cefalométrico de Ricketts. Métodos: Es de tipo experimental, bibliográfico, descriptivo, cuantitativo y cualitativo, debido a que se pretende obtener un registro estadístico del biotipo facial, lo que permitirá conocer la incidencia presente en una determinada comunidad. Resultados: El estudio y los datos estadísticos que se obtuvieron permitieron conocer que el biotipo facial predominante entre los pacientes de la clínica de Postgrado de Odontología de la Universidad de Guayaquil fue el Dólicofacial, lo cual ayudará a futuros especialistas en la elaboración de diagnósticos precisos y tratamientos acordes a cada paciente, así como para futuras investigaciones.
