EFICACIA DEL TORNILLO DE EXPANSIÓN BILATERAL EN UN PACIENTE CON COLAPSO MAXILAR INFERIOR

Abstract

Introducción: El colapso maxilar es una patología que se da comúnmente en los niños, se trata de una estrechez del maxilar causada por varios factores como malos hábitos, pérdida prematura de piezas temporarias o por factores genéticos, entre otros. Por lo general los pacientes presentan apiñamientos marcados, maloclusiones clase II, mordida cruzada o abierta anterior, etc. Objetivo: Determinar la eficacia del tornillo de expansión bilateral en un paciente con colapso maxilar inferior, atendido en la facultad Piloto de Odontología periodo 2018 – 2019 ciclo II. Materiales y métodos: La investigación se realizó mediante un estudio de tipo cualitativo, no experimental y descriptivo. El método utilizado fue de tipo analítico porque se realizó el respectivo análisis del efecto que tiene el tornillo de expansión bilateral en el colapso maxilar inferior. El paciente fue rehabilitado en la Clínica Integral de Odontopediatría II; y según el análisis de Moyers en conjunto con otros métodos de diagnóstico se determinó que el paciente presentaba colapso maxilar inferior. Se realizó una placa de Hawley con tornillo de expansión bilateral inferior, la misma que se le indicó usarla a diario activando el tornillo dos veces al día. Resultados: Al inicio el paciente presentaba en la distancia intermolar 23mm y en la intercanina 28mm; al finalizar el tratamiento se obtuvo una distancia intercanina de 25mm e intermolar de 30mm. Conclusión: Se demostró un avance de 2mm en cada una de las mediciones comprobando así la eficacia del tornillo.
