Abstract

O aleitamento materno está relacionado com o desenvolvimento satisfatório do sistema estomatognático. Durante o ato de amamentação, a criança realiza uma intensa atividade muscular para que consiga executar o movimento de sucção do leite, estimulando toda a musculatura da face. Além disso, o selamento labial ao fazer a sucção, faz com que a criança respire pelo nariz estimulando o desenvolvimento da respiração nasal. Este processo é distinto quando a criança é submetida a uma amamentação artificial. O objetivo do presente estudo foi realizar uma revisão de literatura, por meio de pesquisa nos bancos de dados SCIELO, BVS, de artigos recentes dos últimos 11 anos, pontuando a importância que o aleitamento materno exerce no desenvolvimento estomatognático da criança. Por meio desta revisão de literatura observou-se que, tanto o tipo de aleitamento (artificial ou natural) quanto o tempo do mesmo, tem forte impactos no desenvolvimento do sistema estomatognático, seja na fala, deglutição, mastigação ou respiração da criança. A importância do aleitamento materno deve ser salientada, para que esse ato dure pelo menos os seis primeiros meses de vida da criança minimizando assim as chances de a criança desenvolver hábitos deletérios.
