This article discusses the history of the study of precedent units, the scientific views of foreign and domestic scholars. In the article the examples were used to analyze the peculiarities of expressing the precedent names which is one of the most actual problems of modern linguistics. The role of precedent units in the Uzbek linguocultural community was also described. The great interest of linguists in precedent units, particularly, in precedent names, is explained by the linguistic processes that occur as a result of communication between different languages representatives. Therefore, the number of researches devoted to the study of precedent units is also increasing.
