The present paper attempts to understand the efforts taken by the government for women empowerment in India. It studies various government schemes framed and implemented for women empowerment. Based on secondary data obtained from various sources like government publications and research articles, this theoretical paper concludes that there is a dire need of framing suitable women empowerment schemes and their proper implementation. Reliable and detailed information on these schemes should be reached to needy women and their groups at its earliest. Government should support and monitor such schemes for their effective implementation. Individual and organizational participation in the implementation of such schemes is of great help.
