BOLIVIA, La Paz: Yungas, Edessa imbecilla Bredd, coll. Breddin, Typus, Dtsch. Entomol. Institut Berlin, DEI Hemimetabola #100257 (SDEI) (Fig. 9 F). Examined by photos. Diagnosis. Dorsal surface green (Fig. 9 A). Ventral surface dark yellow to green with transversal dark green lines on thorax and abdomen (Fig. 9 B). Antennae first segment light brown and second to fifth black (Fig. 9 A). Pronotum with punctures concolorous with surface (Fig. 9 A). Humeral angles short (1,3 times wider than long) (Fig. 9 A), apices concolorous with surface (Fig. 9 A). Scutellum with punctures concolorous with surface (Fig. 9 A), apex not reach end of corium (Fig. 9 A). Corium with all veins concolorous with surface (Fig. 9 A). Posterolateral angles of connexivum with apices green (Fig. 9 A); connexival segments with concavities entirely covered by rectangular green spots and separated by a large yellow median spot (Fig. 9 A), spots extending ventrally and green spot forming green bands on the abdomen (Fig. 9 B). Ventral surface. Thorax with green stripes (Fig. 9 B); dark stripe of the propleuron connected to the dark spot of the humeral angle (Fig. 9 B). Evaporatorium concolorous with thorax (Fig. 9 B). Metasternal process (Fig. 9 B) with anterior apex rounded and little expanded laterally, margin rounded; anterior face somewhat excavated; anterior bifurcation receiving fourth rostral segment. Legs brown (Fig. 9 B). Abdomen with spine of third segment rounded (Fig. 9 B). Intersegmental areas green (Fig. 9 B). Pseudosutures concolorous with surface (Fig. 9 B). Median longitudinal brown band restricted to the last segment (Fig. 9 B). Trichobotria lateral to spiracles. Male genitalia, parameres with dorsal lobe acuminate, curved toward posterolateral angles (Fig. 9 D,E). Proctiger with lateral face strongly excavated and posterior face subtriangular (Fig. 9 D,E). Expansions of ventral rim swollen and directed ventrally (Fig. 9 C). Ventral rim with long setae, but without tuft (Fig. 9 C). Male genitalia (Fig. 9 C–E): Parameres with black margin; anterior lobe rounded; posterior lobe subrectangular (Fig. 9 D,E). Ventral rim with expansions strongly developed, rounded, concolorous with surface, level with posterolateral angles (Fig. 9 C). Female genitalia: Unknown. Comments. The Edessa (E.) imbecilla is known only for the type. The lectotype was poorly preserved, but still shows traces of the original green color (Fig. 9 A,B). Thus, the color description presented here for E. (E.) imbecilla is based on other similar well-preserved species. The specimen was described based on photos of the lectotype male. This species can be separated from the others described here by the color of the connexivum (Fig. 9 A) and by the color of the ventral surface of the abdomen (Fig. 9 B).
