Abstract

The genus Chondrina is the most diverse genus of land snails living in the Iberian Peninsula. Recent molecular studies led to important changes in the delimitation of species, with the proposal of several new species pending description. In this paper we present a review of the genus, including the description of 11 new species, previously identified by DNA sequencing studies. The species are grouped in seven phylogroups, named as: maginensis, farinesii, aguilari, granatensis+gasulli, tenuimarginata, kobelti and avenacea groups. A synthesis of the phylogenetic relationships of taxa within each phylogroup is presented in the form of phylogenetic trees. The synonymy, shell description and photographs representative of its polymorphism accompany each species. A reinterpretation of the C. farinesii complex is made, which is proposed as a polytypic species, with one new species described. The other ten undescribed species correspond to the granatensis+gasulli group, which is distributed in the eastern Iberian Peninsula. Finally, we present a dichotomous key to help in the identification of the different taxa.
