Analysis of Waiting Times for Psychotherapy in Bavaria, Germany Publications investigating waiting times for psychotherapy have used a variety of data sources (patient surveys, surveys of psychotherapists, claims data from individual health insurance funds, or samples of psychotherapists). As a result, they have arrived at different conclusions. The present study uses claims data from the German federal state of Bavaria to estimate the time between the initial contact at a psychotherapist and the start of a treatment programme. The median waiting time is found to be 97 days, with considerable variation between age groups and regions.
