Barriers and Facilitators of Ambient-Assisted Living Systems: A Systematic Literature Review- Study protocol

Abstract

This repository describes the search protocol for the manuscript named: Barriers and Facilitators of Ambient-Assisted Living Systems: A Systematic Literature Review. This manuscript was submitted for the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. The repository contains the following documents: (1) Study protocol: this report contains all the steps executed in the protocol. For each step, it details the instructions so that the results can be replicated. (2) Primary studies: This folder contains a CSV file detailing all the primary studies considered. (3) Images: This folder contains the images used in the study. The study was designed by: Gaston Marquez (Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, Concepción, Chile) Carla Taramasco (Universidad Andrés Bello, Viña del Mar, Chile) Context: Ambient Assisted Living Systems (AALSs) are solutions that use information and communication technologies to support the care of the growing population of older adults. AALSs are focused on providing multidimensional support to families, primary care facilities and patients to improve the quality of life of the elderly. Problem: The literature has studied the qualities of AALSs from different perspectives; however, there is little discussion regarding the operational experience of developing and deploying such systems. Method: This paper presents the design and execution of a literature review regarding the operational facilitators and barriers of AALSs. The study identified 750 studies, of which 61 were selected. Results: The results describe that the selected studies mention more barriers than facilitators. Both barriers and facilitators concentrate on aspects of developing and configuring the technological infrastructure of AALS. Contributions: This study organizes and describes the current literature on challenges and opportunities regarding the operation of AALSs in practice, which translates into support for practitioners when developing and deploying AALSs.
