Abstract

El cultivo de dinoflagelados de los géneros Gambierdiscus y Fukuyoa spp. es probablemente una de las tareas más difíciles de conseguir con respecto a microorganismos marinos en el laboratorio. Las especies de estos géneros se caracterizan por un crecimiento lento (con una tasa de crecimiento máximo inferior a 0,5 divisiones/día) y tienen rangos de tolerancia muy estrechos con respecto a salinidad, temperatura e irradiación. Además, su crecimiento es probablemente influenciado por muchos otros parámetros todavía poco estudiados. Este manual, basado en nuestra experiencia y en las observaciones descritas por otros autores, pretende recopilar información que pueda ser útil en la desafiante tarea de conseguir cultivar estos microorganismos.
