Deixis belongs to the area of pragmatics because it directly involves the relationship between the structure of language and the context in which it is used. This article will discuss deictic expressions, firstly by giving definitions by different linguists, secondly by presenting and discussing the different deictic categories and finally by commenting on the different types of uses of deictic expressions such as deictic and anaphoric.
