Abstract

Sharḥ-i-dîwân-i-Anwarî. This manuscript is now IO Islamic 947 in the India Office collections. [metadata: Hermann Ethé, Catalogue of Persian Manuscripts in the Library of the India Office, 2 vols. (Oxford: India Office, 1903): volume 1, number 1126 here with notations and hyperlinks]. 947 Sharḥ-i-dîwân-i-Anwarî (شرح ديوان انورى). Explanation of the difficult verses in Anwarî’s diwân, especially his ḳaṣîdas, by Muḥammad bin Dâ’ûd bin Muḥammad bin Maḥmûd ‘Alawî Shâdiyâbâdî, who flourished in the reign of Nâṣir-aldîn Khiljî, the ruler of Mâlwah (A.H. 906-916=A.D. 1500-1510), see Rieu ii. p. 556a. He also wrote a commentary on Khâḳânî’s poems, see Nos. 968-970 below. Beginning:سپاس بى قياس مر صانع قديم را كه بامر كن جملۀ مكوّنات را از نهان خانۀ كتم عدم در صحراء وجود آورد الخ. The first verse, explained, on fol. 2a, is the initial bait usually found in copies of Anwarî’s ḳaṣîdas: مقدّرى نه الخ. Dated the 24th of Muḥarram, A.H. 1056 (A.D. 1646, March 12), by Amînkhân ibn Shaikh ‘Abdallâh of Shâhpûr. No. 1126, ff. 1-88, ll. 16-19; Nasta’lîḳ, mixed with Shikasta; size, 9½ in. by 5½ in.
