Penelitian ini membahas kompleksitas dan kontradiktif stereotipe orang Madura di dalam cerpen Celurit Warisan karya Muna Masyari. ‘Celurit’ yang menjadi penanda stereotip keras orang Madura, ternyata juga dapat menjadi penanda baik, seperti persahabatan dan pembelaan terhadap harga diri. Dua sisi mata celurit yang bertolak belakang ini menggambarkan keterpecahan karakter tokoh-tokoh dalam cepren Celurit Warisan. Hal yang menarik untuk ditelusuri, sejauh mana tokoh-tokoh dalam cerpen tersebut mengalami keterpecahan jiwa. Penelitian tentang Celurit Warisan dilakukan dengan mempelajari fenomena orang Madura dalam cerita dan mengumpulkan bahan-bahan yang berhubungan dengan fenomena stereotip orang Madura. Pembahasan keterpecahan sosok Madura dalam cerpen Celurit Warisan dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif naratif, yaitu memahami pengalaman yang diekspresikan oleh penulis dalam ceritanya, yang menggambarkan satu rangkaian peristiwa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (a) celurit sebagai simbol stereotio orang Madura menyiratkan ambivalensi dalam diri tokoh cerita, (b) tokoh dalam cerpen Celurit Warisan memiliki kecenderungan untuk menolak sekaligus meniru narasi yang datang dari luar, dan (c) tokoh dalam cerpen Celurti Warisan menunjukkan karakter yang egaliter sekaligus nepotis.
