Evoluţia arhitectural-urbanistică a oraşului Cahul în secolul al XIX-lea

Abstract

Orașul Cahul a fost conceput de inginerii militari ruși ca o localitate model pentru așezarea coloniștilor la sudul Basarabiei. A fost înființată pe locul așezării rurale Frumoasa de către guvernatorul militar al Basarabiei, generalul Pavel Fedorov, care a contribuit la dezvoltarea acestui oraș. Primele planuri topografice și de sistematizare ale acesteia au fost realizate în anul 1840 de către inginerul cadastral județean Stepan Mikulin și un alt inginer cadastral al regiunii Basarabia, Bogdan Eitner. Planul orașului județean Cahul a fost examinat de mai multe ori la Ministerul Afacerilor Interne al Imperiului Rus și a fost confirmat la 9 februarie 1845. Acest document de urbanism aprobat de țarul Nicolae I și ministrul Afacerilor Interne Lev Perovski, s-a caracterizat printr-o schematizare accentuată. O „renaștere” a monotoniei ortogonale s-a putut observa în partea de sud-vest a așezării. Noul centru al orașului s-a constituit în Piața Catedralei. În anul 1850, pe locul vechii biserici de lemn construită în 1785, a fost ridicată catedrala Sf. Arhangheli Mihail și Gavriil ca centru de compoziție al întregii așezări urbane, iar în anii 1856–1858 biserica lipovenească a Ocrotirii Maicii Domnului. În oraș au apărut Piața Bazar, Piața Gostinyi Dvor, Piața Hay și grădina publică.
