This study investigated the changes in antioxidant system (AOS) and lipid peroxidation (LP) activity depending on the stage of pathologic processes in patients with chronic renal insufficiency (CRI). It was determined that hemodialysis does not effect on the levels of LPO products. We estimated the elevation of AOS parameters - superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) in patients with hemodialysis as the might be accepted as improved compensatory abilities of the organism. Low activity of glutathione peroxidase (GP) might be in the result of metabolic acidosis in patients with CRI. Decreased concentration of reduced GSH might be connected with activation of LP and inhibition of GP activity.
