Sasajiscymnus maculatus Tong & Wang, sp. nov.

Abstract

Sasajiscymnus maculatus Tong & Wang sp. nov. (Figs 33, 67) Chinese name: ỜṄḧ瓢• Diagnosis. This species is similar to S. aureus sp. nov., but can be distinguished from the later by the elytra with black spots and penis guide approximately parallel sided for basal 1/ 2 in ventral view (Figs 33a–c, 33h). In S. aureus, elytra are entirely yellow and the penis guide is widest at base (Figs 21a–c, 21h). Description. TL: 1.92–2.29 mm, TW: 1.39–1.71 mm, TH: 0.72–0.84 mm. Body oval, moderately convex, surfaces covered with short pubescence (Figs 33a–c). Head yellow with interocular distance distinctly greater than eye width in frontal view. Pronotum and scutellar shield yellow. Elytra yellow and each elytron usually with three black spots: basal spot situated at near humeral calli (sometimes reduced); second spot situated on suture, semicircular and small (sometimes absent); posterior spot situated at apical part of elytron (sometimes absent). Ventral surfaces yellow to black. Legs yellow. Abdominal postcoxal lines incomplete, not recurved toward the base of ventrite (Fig. 33d). Male genitalia: Penis stout, penis capsule with stout outer arm and long inner one, apex of penis constricted with distinct membranous appendage (Figs 33e–f). Penis guide with prominent keel at base in lateral view, then tapering towards pointed apex; parameres about 1/3 as long as penis guide, with a tuft of long setae at apex; penis guide approximately parallel sided for basal 1/ 2 in ventral view, then gradually narrowing to pointed apex (Figs 33g –h). Female genitalia: Coxites elongate, triangular; styli well developed with terminal setae; spermatheca distinctly curved, with basal ramus and elongate nodulus. Type material. Holotype: China: Xizang: ♂, North Downtown of Chaiyu County, 2300 m, 18.X.2007, Wang XM leg (SCAU). Paratypes (SCAU): China: Xizang: 2♂ 4♀ Same data as holotype; 1♂, Xiachayu Town, Chaiyu County, 1800 m, 14.X.2007, Wang XM leg; 1♀, 52K–65K of Zhamo Highroad, Motuo County, 2800–3500 m, 13.X.2011, Huo LZ leg. Distribution. China (Xizang). Etymology. The specific epithet maculatus derives from the Latin word “maculatus” meaning spotted, and refers to the elytra with black spots.
