The article examines the dynamics of the development of ancient Egyptian sculpture during the period from the Ancient to the New Kingdom. The process of its evolution in the direction of greater realism and dynamism is traced. It is concluded that the evolution of ancient Egyptian sculpture from canon to realism took place "along a sinusoid". Despite the unconditional development of plastic thought and the appeal to truly human features, the Egyptians, after each bold step towards the development of absolute realism, returned to the root traditions and canons. However, the innovative search for masters led to the fact that the ancient Egyptian plastic, having once experienced realistic human features, could no longer return to the original canon.
