Determinación serológica de adenovirus canino tipo 2 (CAV-2) en un refugio canino de Quito

Abstract

La traqueobronquitis infecciosa canina (TBIC) es una enfermedad frecuente y de alta morbilidad en lugares de hacinamiento como refugios o guarderías caninas. La aparición de brotes representa grandes dificultades tanto en la salud animal como el costo que genera el tratamiento de estos animales por lo que es indispensable el diagnóstico oportuno para tomar medidas de prevención y control, con la consideración que ocasionalmente cursa sin signos clínicos evidentes. Uno de los agentes que forma parte de la etiología de esta enfermedad es el adenovirus canino tipo 2 (CAV-2), el cual está incluido en los calendarios rutinarios de inmunización. Este trabajo tuvo objetivo evaluar la presencia del CAV-2 en un grupo de 47 caninos pertenecientes a un refugio en la ciudad de Quito; se aplicó una prueba de inmunocromatografía en hisopados nasooculares, cuyo resultado fue obtenido con un lector colorimétrico. Se obtuvo una prevalencia de 8,51% (4/47) y mediante el test de chi-cuadrado (X2) se determinó que la edad, el sexo y la presencia de signos clínicos durante el muestreo no son factores de riesgo para la presencia del virus, pero sí lo es (p<0,05) la existencia de antecedentes respiratorios en el historial de los caninos. Un aspecto importante de la investigación es que todos los animales infectados mantenían un calendario vacunal vigente, denotando que la protección para el CAV-2 no es completa.
