Významné medzníky vo vývoji laboratórnej a klinickej (bio)chémie vo svete a na Slovensku – stručný chronologický prehľad / Major milestones in the evolution of laboratory and clinical (bio)chemistry in the world and in Slovakia – a brief chronological review

Abstract

ABSTRACT Major milestones in the evolution of laboratory and clinical (bio)chemistry from the birth of scientific chemistry at the end of the 18th century to the emergence of clinical biochemistry as a scientific discipline and medical field in the 20th century are briefly described in this paper. It deals with the development of scientific knowledge and discoveries, laboratory methods, instrumentation and technologies in their use in practical application in medical and healthcare activities. Special attention to the development of clinical laboratories in Europe and in the world is outlined in this work. The development of clinical biochemistry in Slovakia as a medical field and the field of specialization, its organizational development in the departments and laboratories of clinical biochemistry in hospitals and other medical facilities are briefly described as well. It also touches some aspects of penetrations and mutual interactions with area of laboratory medicine.
