Inteligencia emocional en los docentes del Centro de Estudios Las Américas de Xalapa

Abstract

Durante el siglo XIX y siglo XX una de las ideas más arraigadas en la investigación era que sólo existía un tipo de inteligencia la cual estaba íntimamente ligada al coeficiente intelectual y que determina en gran parte el éxito que se logre en la vida de cada individuo. Fue a partir de los años 80’s que Howard Gardner decide marcar la relevancia de los resultados de su investigación en su libro “Estructuras de la mente”. Él afirma que existen ocho inteligencias múltiples que puede desarrollar cualquier ser humano o poseer cierta habilidad de manera innata. Tales inteligencias son: lingüística, lógico – matemática, espacial, musical, corporal – kinestésica, intrapersonal e interpersonal y naturalista. Posteriormente, esta teoría de Gardner fue retomada por Daniel Goleman en su libro Inteligencia Emocional (1995). El término fue utilizado por primera vez en 1990 por los psicólogos Peter Salovey de la Universidad de Harvard y John Mayer de la Universidad de New Hampshire. Se le empleó para describir las cualidades emocionales que parecen tener importancia para el éxito. Tales cómo: la empatía, expresión y comprensión de los sentimientos, capacidad de adaptación, capacidad de resolver problemas intrapersonales e interpersonales, etc. En el margen de la educación actual, es deseable que los docentes presenten un alto nivel de esta inteligencia pues crea un vínculo emocional sano con sus alumnos, el cual permite tener mejor comunicación y comprensión de problemas ya sea familiares, sentimentales o escolares.
