SCaaS – Scientific Computing as a Service : Vers une offre de service « Informatique Scientifique » à l'Inserm

Abstract

Depuis quelques années, l'Inserm voit augmenter de manière significative les besoins de ses structures de recherche en services et accompagnement pour le calcul, le stockage, le traitement et la gestion de données. De 2014 à 2019, la mission de coordination de l'Informatique Scientifique de l'Inserm (CISI) a mené de nombreuses actions visant à comprendre et répondre à ces besoins (formations au calcul distribué, cartographie de l'existant, plan de mutualisation des moyens de calcul), en collaboration avec GENCI, France Grilles et les mésocentres. En 2019, dans le cadre de sa réorganisation, le DSI de l'Inserm a créé un domaine "Informatique Scientifique" au sein de son service "Solutions et Développement des Usages Numériques". Ce changement structurel a été l'occasion de repenser la définition d'une offre de service complète à destination des laboratoires, structures et équipes de l'Inserm. Intitulée "SCaaS" (Scientific Computing as a Service), cette offre vise à articuler d'un point de vue conceptuel et fonctionnel un ensemble de services centrés sur la donnée de recherche. Le poster présente les points de départ et les enjeux ayant menés à l'idée de cette structuration. Il décrit les différents aspects retenus pour constituer l'offre de service, puis la démarche visant à identifier et différencier chaque service unitaire. Il aborde les éléments de réflexion sur la mutualisation des services, leur intégration dans des structures inter-établissements, et la réutilisation de services existants.
