Ethmia rectiuga Zhu & Wang 2022, sp. nov.

Abstract

Ethmia rectiuga sp. nov. (Figs 6, 15) Type material. CHINA, Zhejiang: Holotype ♂, Jiufu Village (30.09ºN, 118.93ºE), Mt. Longtang, 520 m, 26.VII.2014, leg. AH Yin et al., slide No. ZXJ19650. Diagnosis. The new species is similar to E. antennipilosa Wang & Li, 2004 (Wang & Li 2004: 135, figs 1, 3, 5) and E. susa (Kun & Szabóky 2000: 77, figs 24, 40) in forewing pattern and male genitalia. It can be distinguished superficially by the stripe on the outer margin of the forewing discal cell connected with the small spot below it; in the male genitalia by the ventral surface of the gnathos with a rectangular ridge medially near anterior margin, and the cucullus pointed at apex. In E. antennipilosa and E. susa, the forewing has the stripe on the outer margin of the discal cell not connected with the small spot below it; and the ventral surface of the gnathos has no ridge, and the cucullus is obtuse at apex. Description. Adult (Fig. 6). Wingspan 19.5 mm. Head: Vertex white, frons blackish brown. Labial palpus missing. Antenna with scape white, brown on anterior margin, mixed with greyish brown on posterior margin; flagellum greyish brown, white on basal several flagellomeres on dorsal surface. Thorax: Collar, mesonotum and tegula white; collar brown at base, mesonotum paired black spots basally and distally, tegula with a large black spot at base near outer margin. Forewing grey, with diffused greyish brown scales from basal 1/6 to before middle; overlaid with 15 markings: costal margin with black stripe at base and a greyish brown spot stretching outward from its posterior margin; three black stripes in basal half near costal margin; cell with black spot at distal 2/5, a tadpole-shaped black stripe at outer margin heading towards apex, with a small black spot below, connected with tadpole-shaped stripe; fold with a black spot at base, a short straight black stripe near middle, and a large black spot at middle; black spot near base of wing above fold; black dot above basal 1/5 of dorsum; three distal spots black, arranged in a triangle; ten black marginal dots extending from distal part of costal margin along termen to tornus; fringe concolourous with wing. Hindwing yellowish grey; fringe greyish white. Legs greyish white; coxa of foreleg blackish brown ventrally, femur blackish brown mixed with greyish white dorsally, tibia blackish brown, greyish white near base, at middle and at apex, tarsus blackish brown, greyish white dorsally at base, at apex of basal tarsomere, and at apex of second tarsomere; femur of midleg blackish brown at base and at apex dorsally, tibia with blackish brown spot at base, middle and near apex, tarsus blackish brown, greyish white at base of basal tarsomere and at apices of basal three tarsomeres; femur of hindleg with a blackish brown spot at base, tibia with whitish yellow hairs, tarsus blackish brown, greyish brown at base of basal four tarsomeres dorsally, greyish white in basal half of basal tarsomere ventrally. Abdomen: Male genitalia (Fig. 15) with uncus quadrilateral in basal 2/3, bilobed in distal 1/3; each lobe extending obliquely outward, truncate apically. Tegumen height longer than uncus. Gnathos nearly as long as uncus; caudal part straight on posterior margin, with long spines; oral part twice as wide as caudal part, with fine spines anteriorly, ventral surface with a rectangular ridge medially near anterior margin, its lateral side concave. Labis elongate digitate, slightly shorter than uncus. Valva with stout costa shorter than half length of valva, broad basally, narrowed to obtuse apex; sacculus sub-ovate, ventral margin straight in basal half, concave inward in distal half, with a large ventroapical spine 1/3 length of cucullus; cucullus shorter than half length of valva, straight on dorsal margin, arc-shaped on ventral margin, pointed apically. Juxta a narrow band; posterolateral lobes slender, obtusely rounded apically. Phallus stout, curved basally, without cornutus. Female unknown. Distribution. China (Zhejiang). Etymology. The specific epithet is derived from the Latin rect- and -iugum, referring to the median rectangular ridge near the anterior margin of the oral part of the gnathos.
