La mayoría de los pacientes con cáncer diferenciado de tiroides tiene un bajo riesgo de recurrencia. La tiroidectomía y el tratamiento posterior con yodo radiactivo ha sido la terapia clásica para este tipo de tumores. Sin embargo, desde hace varios años se recomienda el tratamiento yodo radiactivo para un determinado grupo de pacientes, pero es controvertido el beneficio de la administración de yodo en pacientes de riesgo bajo e intermedio.
