Video portrait of Nora & Noreen in Tema (Ghana). Produced and edited by Jørgen Carling. Duration: 03:10. FUMI is a research project about the lives and dreams of young adults in three West African cities: São Vicente (Cape Verde), Serekunda (The Gambia) and Tema (Ghana). We examine thoughts and feelings about the prospect of migrating and make advances in theory and methodology. Through our ethnographic fieldwork we get to know unique individuals who make a strong impression. The richness of those encounters is impossible to convey in research output, partly because of our ethical obligation to preserve confidentiality and anonymity. The video portraits show individuals who are not research participants, but who are also young adults in the same locations. See prio.org/fumi.
