Choix de l'auditeur : Quels déterminants ? Une revue de la littérature théorique et empirique

Abstract

Le rôle de l’auditeur dans la sauvegarde du patrimoine des entreprises et la stabilité des marchés financiers est pointé du doigt chaque fois qu’un scandale financier est médiatisé. Ces scandales ont conduit ces dernières années, à renforcer les législations nationales de plusieurs pays en matière de régulation de l’audit. Etant donné que la recherche en audit est souvent portée par ces changements réglementaires, les chercheurs se sont intéressés aux motivations qui poussent ces entreprises à choisir un auditeur plutôt qu’un autre. La revue de la littérature fait état de deux motivations principales qui déterminent le choix de l’auditeur : une motivation économique et une autre sociologique. La motivation économique explique le choix des entreprises qui présentent des problématiques d’agence et d’asymétrie de l’information ou qui ont besoin d’une couverture par l’assurance en cas d’un éventuel préjudice économique. La motivation sociologique est plutôt nourrie par une recherche d’une légitimité à travers l’audit, pour faire face aux pressions et exigences de l’environnement. Cet article a pour objectif de présenter un modèle de recherche théorique des déterminants du choix de l’auditeur et de faire un état de l’art empirique sur l’utilisation de ce modèle.
