This report, first published in 2016 and updated in 2021-22, is intended to provide an overview of the current landscape of research PIDs, and will provide insights into their role in developing a more cohesive virtual research environment, supporting the preservation, discoverability, and reuse of research information. It also provides a series of recommendations—grouped by broad stakeholder group—designed to focus actions in the Canadian ecosystem to achieve concrete results quickly.
This is an update of the original document, published by Research Data Canada in 2016. Research Data Canada transitioned to the Digital Research Alliance of Canada in 2021.
