A study protocol for AI-Mind: Artificial intelligence combined with neurophysiological and neuropsychological measures for dementia prediction

Abstract

Over 10 million Europeans suffer from mild cognitive impairment (MCI), a condition between expected aging and dementia. While many MCI patients remain stable, ~50% of them progress to dementia within five years. In these subjects, the first neurodegenerative changes occur years before clinical symptoms. Early pathology, causing brain network disturbances, could potentially be observed with advanced electroencephalography (EEG) and magnetoencephalography (MEG) analysis. Yet, EEG/MEG signals are currently not widely utilized in dementia risk assessment. The poster presents the study protocol of AI-Mind project, which aims to enrol 1'000 participants with MCI in five clinical centres in Europe.
