Prosena sybarita Rondani 1861

Abstract

Prosena sybarita Rondani, 1861 ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1861d: 280. TYPE LOCALITY: “ Havniae [= Copenhagen (Denmark)]” (Fabricius, 1775: 798) [type locality for Prosena siberita (Fabricius, 1775)]. TYPE MATERIAL: see Remarks. CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Prosena siberita (Fabricius, 1775) (Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 367, O’Hara & Cerretti 2016: 108). REMARKS: Rondani (1861d: 280) proposed the substitute name Prosena sybarita for Prosena siberita (Fabricius, 1775) in reference to the locality “Sybaris” [= Sibari, Italy], which was not reported in the original description by Fabricius (1775: 798). Pandellé (1896: 161) considered Prosena sybarita as junior synonym of Prosena siberita. Bezzi & Stein (1907: 448) listed the species as Prosena sybarita (Fabricius, 1775). Herting & Dely- Draskovits (1993: 367), O’Hara et al. (2011: 214), O’Hara & Cerretti (2016: 108) and Evenhuis & Pape (2020) listed Prosena sybarita as an available name, unjustified emendation of Prosena siberita. The type material for Prosena sybarita will be the same as for the name it was proposed to replace, i. e., Prosena siberita. There is no type of Prosena siberita in the ZMUC where the Fabrician collection is preserved (Michelsen 2017).
