Tratamiento del infarto agudo al miocardio: nuevas perspectivas

Abstract

La enfermedad coronaria es la causa líder de morbilidad y mortalidad a nivel global, siendo su forma más común de presentación el infarto agudo al miocardio (IAM). El impacto epidemiológico de esta entidad es severo, lo cual obliga a elaborar nuevas alternativas terapéuticas que permitan mejorar las probabilidades de los pacientes. Dada la elevada prevalencia de esta condición y con un patrón creciente en las últimas décadas, se ha vuelto menester desarrollar estrategias que permitan abordar aspectos que se dejan de lado en la terapéutica actual, la cual está enfocada principalmente en lograr la reperfusión tan pronto como sea posible o disminuir la extensión del infarto. No obstante, nuevas corrientes de tratamiento indican que es posible evitar la remodelación cardíaca postinfarto a través de la utilización de diferentes tipos de células madre, ofreciendo una alternativa viable para aquellos pacientes que ya no son candidatos a procedimientos de intervención coronaria percutánea. El objetivo de esta revisión es evaluar las nuevas estrategias de tratamiento para el IAM y la viabilidad para su utilización en modelos humanos.
