Kino – Gefahrenort oder Bildungsanstalt? Pädagogische Debatten zu einem neuen Medium im Kanton Zürich 1900–1930

Abstract

In einer kulturwissenschaftlich informierten Perspektive wird mit vier «kaleidoskopischen Bildern» an die Situierung des Kinofilms in pädagogischen Debatten vor allem in Zürich zwischen 1900 und 1930 «herangezoomt»: Der Beitrag beginnt mit einer doppelten Kontextualisierung, die sowohl auf krisendiagnostische Abwehrhaltungen gegenüber dem Kinofilm in verschiedenen gesellschaftlichen Gruppen als auch auf zunehmende schulische Gebrauchsweisen von (bewegten) Bildern und die dazugehörigen Diskussionen eingeht. Es schliesst sich in einem weiteren Spotlight die Beschreibung des damaligen Konflikts an, ob die jugendfürsorgliche Filmauswahl Sache der Polizei oder der Pädagogik sei, bevor zeitgenössische Darstellungen beleuchtet werden, die nicht nur den Kinofilm, sondern auch das Kino mit Vorführraum und Filmplakat auf der Grossstadtstraße als Gefährdungsort problematisierten. Für ein feinkörnigeres Bild werden vor dem Fazit die Debatten zum Kinofilm als Bildungsmedium in der Sozialdemokratischen Lehrervereinigung Zürichs genauer untersucht. Um eine quellengesättigte Erschliessung zu ermöglichen, werden u.a. zeitgenössische Protokolle von Lehrpersonengremien, Artikel pädagogischer Fachzeitschriften, jugendfürsorgerische Schriften und frühe Abhandlungen zum Kino herangezogen.
